June 22, 2006 - The following is a summary of Can-Trace news highlights over the past month:
Can-Trace Writes Federal Minister of Agriculture: In a continuing effort to communicate with its stakeholder community, Can-Trace has written the new federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Honourable Chuck Strahl. The purpose was to introduce Can-Trace as a joint industry-government effort which has provided leadership through collaboration and consensus over the past three years, and to highlight its many accomplishments, including the recently published second version of the Canadian Food Traceability Data Standard (CFTDS). A copy of the letter can be viewed at www.can-trace.org/e/ministerletter.
FPT Traceability Task Force Requests Meeting with Can-Trace: Further to the consultations with industry announced in March 2006, the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Task Force on Traceability has requested a meeting with Can-Trace to solicit the members’ views. The meeting is scheduled to take place in late August at the next face-to-face Can-Trace Steering Committee meeting.
Speaking Opportunities: Can-Trace welcomes speaking opportunities at industry and association meetings and conferences on the topic of food traceability and Can-Trace’s progress. Presentation materials for industry updates and other communication purposes are also available. For more information, please contact Norm Cheesman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
